The Secret of how to Learn the Guitar Solo from ANY Song!

Most aspiring guitar enthusiasts when they learn to play guitar at some point they desire to take the step up and want to learn to play guitar solos. After all being the rhythm guitarist for a band is not so exciting. It is the lead guitar player screaming out a crazy and hot guitar solo is the one that gets the crowd screaming and the girls hot.

I can tell you from playing guitar for 30 years now, as a guitarist, there is nothing as satisfying as being the one screaming out a crazy guitar solo. I have had periods in my life over the past 10 years of playing where I devoted 6-8 hours per day studying lead guitar and spending countless hours going up and down the scale to perfect my technical ability as a lead guitar player.

With all my experience I can tell you that THE single best way to improve your lead guitar playing and style is to learn the guitar solo from other guitarists. When you learn the guitar solo from another guitarist is improves you as a lead guitar player in SO MANY WAYS!

Your technical ability as a lead guitar playing improves

You learn new guitar phrases that you can apply to all your future guitar solos. A lead guitar phrase is basically a short 1 or 2 second pattern of playing that produces a distinct sound. It is when you hear your favorite guitarist doing a lead guitar solo in a song and you hear a part of that solo and say to yourself “whoa! that sounded so cool. How did he do that??”

After learning a few guitar solos from the same guitarist you end up inheriting his style of playing guitar into your own style so learning another guitarists lead guitar solos you end up taking a piece of that guitarist with you forever. There is no other way to acquire that other than studying and learning another lead guitarist solos.

The BEST way to learn the guitar solo from any song…

Here is the best way to learn the guitar solo from another guitarist AND gain the added benefits mentioned above:

Select a guitar solo that will inspire you. You want a guitar solo that when you listen to it you think to yourself “god I would LOOOOVVEEEE to be able to play that solo!” This step is super important because that passion will help you learn that solo so much faster and so much easier. You have no idea the power passion has. It is super important that you have that burning desire with the guitar solo your want to learn. If you don’t feel it then pick another solo

Make sure the lead guitar solo you select in step #1 above is a challenge but not TOO big a challenge. You want to stretch but you don’t want to do something that you think is impossible. If you could measure what you feel your talent as a guitarist is on a scale of one to ten pick a guitar solo that is just one step above your current talent level.

Select a piece of software that will slow down that guitar solo for you. Ideally you also want that software to have a built in equalizer so you can muff out the elements of the song that tend to drown out the guitar solo. Elements such as the bass, drums, cymbals all should be toned down as this will act to make the lead guitar part more pronounced and easier to hear so you can learn it. The software that I personally use for this is called RiffMaster Pro.

Riffmaster also has a lot of other features which really helps to learn the guitar solo from any song including:

The ability to select a start and end point in the song that you have loaded into RiffMaster. That way you can set the start point to be the very beginning of the guitar solo and the end point the very end of the guitar solo and then have the program play only between those two points

RiffMaster lets you slow down the guitar as little or as much as you wish. You can slow a guitar solo down to a molasses crawl if you want.

Slows the music down WITHOUT changing the pitch or the tuning of the song. Without this feature learning the guitar solo will be a real pain as you will have to re tune your guitar with the music. If you have a locking tremlo system on your guitar like a Floyd Rose then this becomes a total nightmare.

The ability to change the pitch of the song if you wish. This comes in handy because if a song is out of tune with your guitar instead of having to re tune your guitar you can just move a slider bar in the RiffMaster program and re tune the song to match your guitars tuning. Again this can be a big time saver.

My final piece of advice for improving as a lead guitar player is once you have learned the guitar solo from your chosen song go past just learning it…MASTER IT. What I mean by that is become so familiar and so comfortable with that guitar solo that you interject your own personality and passion into the guitar solo so you truly make that guitar solo your own.

Once your have learned the guitar solo THAT WELL then you will notice a DRAMATIC improvement in your playing just from learning that one single guitar solo!

What about Guitar Tabs to learn the guitar solo?

My personal opinion is that I do not like guitar tabs. The ONLY time I recommend guitar tabs is if a part of a guitar solo is just impossible to learn by listening to it no matter how much you slow it down with RiffMaster. Then and only then use guitar tabs for that little piece of the guitar solo.

The reason I do not like guitar tabs is guitar tabs are NOT 100% accurate and they take the soul out of the guitar solo. I have learned guitar solos using both methods, guitar tabs and listening to the solo by ear and listening to the guitar solo and learning it by ear is just much better. If you use RiffMaster there is absolutely no reason you can not learn just about any guitar solo by ear.

To find out more about RiffMaster for slowing down songs and guitar solos…

visit the RiffMaster web site

A great web site that has hot guitar solos from popular guitarists that are already slowed down with RiffMaster including guitar solos from Eddie Van Halen, Scorpions, Night Ranger, Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne)

visit the slow down guitar solos web site.

The concept of playing Lead Guitar can be hard to wrap your head around at first. How do they think that fast? How do they move that fast? How do they choose those notes? Well, let me give you a few of the tools you’ll need to be a shred beast too…

Tip #1 – The notes you’ll play match with the chords you’re playing over. So, if you’re soloing over a C major chord (spelled C E G), then those notes are going to work perfectly. The other notes can be in there too, but your emphasis will be on the notes of the chord.

Tip #2 – Pick a scale that includes the notes from at least most of the chords you’ll be playing over. Let’s say you have a chord progression that goes A D E A. Spell those chords out first:
A – A C# E
D – D F# A
E – E G# B

Which scale includes those three sharp notes? A major. You can use an A major scale to solo over that whole progression and you’ll be just fine. When you start to encounter progression that don’t all easily fit into one scale, you’ll simply pick another scale (in the same way) to play over the chords that don’t fit your original one.

Tip #3 – Start with small groups of notes. When you see a player blazing all over the fretboard it looks like they’re playing a lot of notes all at once. What is actually happening, and what you want to do, is take small groupings of 3-5 notes and create a phrase out of that. Then create more of those little 3-5 note melodies. When you string them together, they’ll appear to form much larger phrases. But you’re still thinking of the small phrases linking one to the next.

Tip #4 – Think rhythmically. Rhythm is the defining factor of a piece of music. Think of something like Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. Duh duh duh duuuuuuuuh. Even if you play exactly the same notes, but with the wrong rhythm – duh duuuuh duh duh – It’s no longer the same melody. So when you’re creating your 3-5 note melodies, work at creating the most interesting rhythms you can rather than the perfect combination of notes. Your lines will have a lot more impact that way.

Tip #5 – Learn to ornament. Notes and rhythms are nice, but it’s what you do to the notes that creates really great musical phrases. Take the time to really learn about bending strings, hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, rakes, vibratos, palm muting, etc. A line played straight is like a Christmas tree with nothing on it. Add some of those decorations and you’ll start to realize your own voice as a player.

Tip #6 – To gain speed, slow down. Take one of your 3-5 note phrases and work on it with a metronome at a slow speed. Once you can play it perfectly 5 times in a row, bump your metronome up one notch. That’s only a couple of beats per minute and your brain won’t realize you’ve gotten faster. Get it solid the same way at that speed then bump it up again. Eventually you’ll have it up to the speed you want it at. It seems like it takes longer this way, but really you’re accomplishing much more in way less time.

The bottom line here is that some work has to be put in at the beginning. And you may come back the next day and you’ve fallen a couple steps back. Learning music (and anything else) is always “two steps forward, one step back”. If you’re consistent in your practice your starting point each time will be closer to your goal. So keep at it and be sure to check out the resource in my sig for more great guitar tips!

This online guitar program has several teaching approaches for children, beginners, intermediate players, advanced players and guitar teachers as well.

The children course of this online program is designed for children 8 years and above. Even though parents need to supervise their children a lot, this course also guarantees that it will be a fun learning experience. The author of this program, Steve Krentz also claimed that a child can already learn few songs in just few weeks of practice. The good thing is that most of the reviewers found this to be a very reasonable price.

For the beginners, they said in the Learn and Master Guitar review that this online course is almost perfect. The reason for the fast progress of the student lies in the video lessons because they are easy to follow and to understand as well. This is also the thing which the intermediate players like about this guitar course the most.

Advanced players can benefit from this course a lot because of the new guitar styles and trends that it provides. The video lessons included here will also help the guitar teachers to teach their students better.

Your guitar is one of the most amazingly expressive instruments out there because of all the ways we have to ornament our notes. A variety of vibratos, rakes, slides, bends, and other techniques give the guitar a very vocal quality. Here we’ll be talking about two techniques you must have. Hammer ons and pull offs. These very simple techniques form the backbone of every lead guitarists arsenal of tricks.

Hammer On
This entails picking the first note, then “hammering on” a second note on the same string with a new finger, without picking it.

Here’s an example. Place your first finger on the 2nd string at the 7th fret. Pick that note. Then, without picking again, slap your third finger down on the 9th fret of the same string. Your aim is to have both notes be at the same volume. You get a smooth transition (called “legato”) between notes and your right hands gets to take a quick break.

A couple things to keep in mind:
- Hammer down fast and hard. You’re trying to not interrupt the vibration of the string. It’s kind of like pulling the table cloth out from under a table full of dishes. Fast makes it neat. Slow means a big mess.

- Use the tip of your finger rather than the pad. The pads of your fingers are squishier than the tips. That little extra give in the skin there can disrupt the vibration of the string.

- Practice this until the volumes of both notes are the same. Then practice the technique with different combinations of fingers.

Pull Off
This is exactly the opposite of a hammer on. You’ll start with a note higher on the string and “pull off” to the lower one without picking again.

Example: Place your third finger at the 9th fret, 2nd string. Then place your first finger on the 7th fret of the same string. Unlike a hammer on, both fingers have to be in place before the pull off happens. Pick the first note, then pull your finger off the 9th fret so you hear the note at the 7th. As you come off, give the string a little flick with your third finger. Your finger acts like a pick to keep the vibration of the string going. Again, we’re looking to keep the volume consistent.

A couple things to keep in mind:
- Flick your finger hard enough to keep the string moving, but not so hard that you catch the string above it. It takes a little practice to get it just right.

- Using your finger tip rather than the pad will give you better control here as well.

- Work on it until you can keep both notes at the same volume.

Mix them up!
If you take two notes and repeatedly use a hammer on and pull off on them, it’s called a Trill. It’s a technique that goes back hundreds of years in music history and is still used by the greatest players today. It’s also a great way to keep your left hand muscles strong.

Use these techniques and your legato lead guitar skills will be one step closer to Guitar God status!

The electric bass guitar is played by several terrific guitarists and there are already a few iconic variations in the story of popular music.

The electric bass instrument had been 1st found in the 1930′s once it was initially put together by Paul Tutmarc. Yet, it wasn’t till the 1950′s when Leo Fender, aided by George Fullerton, introduced the Fender Precision Bass which had been the original mass built electric bass guitar.Which isthought of by some players as the best bass guitar ever manufactured.

Ahead of this the double or sometimes stand-up bass was adopted in popular tracks, and even though is no longer as familiar in these modern times continues to be used mostly for blues, rockabilly and also ‘unplugged’ concerts. The electric bass guitar could have 4, 5 or even 6 strings, nevertheless the 4 string version is by far the most common. strings continue to be tuned E, A, D, G identical to basic intonation on your six string axe, just an octave lower. The electric bass guitar also has pick-ups as a consequence to listen to the sound it has got to be connected to some type of boosting system.

bass guitars commonly have frets, even so you can find types which can be fretless like their double bass forebears. Today’s bass guitars include twenty four or maybe more frets. Interestingly, the very first fretless electric bass was first ‘invented’ by Bill Wyman then from the Rolling Stones in 1961.

The electric bass guitar is usually performed in a lot of diverse styles dependent on the sought after sound or perhaps the sort of songs being performed. The electric bass might be picked using the fingertips, slapped like funk bassist Mark King from Level 42, pick and palm muted similar to Paul McCartney or sometimes tapped using both hands much like John Entwhistle of The Who.

Numerous models of pick-ups for the bass guitar in addition to diverse tunings as well as effects mean that it comes with an extensive amount of variety and scope to generate interest as well as depth to the rhythm section of a band.

Innovative styles of playing the electric bass can form the central point of a bands sound. In popular music groups that have made use of that bass sound to very good effect have been The Who, The Stranglers, New Order together with the array of 1970′s funk groups.

When John Entwhistle died, Peter Townsend of The Who has been reported to have said that once John died he had to work considerably harder as a lead/rhythm guitarist due to the fills and ‘fiddly’ bits that he had done in several of the groups tunes whenever they performed live.

The bass has had a lot of renowned models in addition to connections. It really is as significant an important part of the present day group as it came to be in the 1950′s when popular songs came to the greater market.

Nothing matches the powerful sound of bass guitars, the anchor of all the great songs for years. There are plenty out there with something to suit everybodys ability and pocket. For that reason go to your internet guitar emporium that will have cheap bass guitars, you can expect to completely love it.

Don’t get in a flap – it’s not unusual for your progress to slow down now and again. Every musician, whatever what their musical preference, knows the symptoms. One fine day it dawns on you that you’ve performed the same old thing for a long time, and you are not getting any better. On top of that, you’re not trying to add other tunes to your repertoire. What’s going on here? You’ve hit a full stop, attained your level, you’re stuck, doomed never to get any better and attain your ambition, which is to be hailed as the greatest guitar master that ever played.

Is there something you can do?

Well, of course there is. At least, let me give you some idea of what works in my case. As you can possible guess, a lot of it is based in the mind, unless you are just practicing so much that you are physically fed up of playing! Some master players, like BB King, don’t practice for hours, and just perform. By the way, he also confided that he’s afraid each time he plays, as he thinks that ‘this time it won’t work’ and ‘I’m just not good enough’.

Try and leave it alone!

Of course this is a difficult thing to do for us guitarists. Many of the best guitarists indicate that they played licks and songs a countless number of times to be at the top (and I’m sure it’s true), so you have to practice until we’re exhausted, don’t we? Right and wrong.

It’s true that we are improving and reinforcing the muscular skills by putting our hands on the right strings again and again, but if these actions are mechanical, without the passion behind it, then it’s not productive. Get the mind trained – why are you learning guitar? You play because it’s your passion.

Relax for a few days. Forget that complicated song you’ve been trying to learn. After a week or so not playing, you’ll possibly find that the music just comes naturally.

Its beneficial to revisit to the first steps

Inevitably, when we improve in our playing, more basic things that we do are taken as learned as we improve our skills. As we progress, we can get a little loose with our basic ways of playing, which have a beauty all of their own. Return to them and re-learn them. Explore the music of the old masters and understand how their techniques were based on solid foundations.

Play really simple stuff for a week or so, but play it with feeling and give attention to every little detail.

Get Comfortable Playing Your Playing.

When you are at ease with the music, then it flows and comes naturally. Each one of us can get better, but its a fact that we all have a boundary of playing ability. Recognition of this and assimilating it, will make you at ease. Talk to “perhaps I can’t progress further – I’ll make sure that the the music I do perform the very best it can be.” After you get into this state of mind, you’ll progress! It’s almost supernatural!

There are many levels of expertise, and we can’t always be the best. Someone once said “if just the best birds sang in the forest, it would be a be very quiet place indeed”. Know your level of expertise and be content with it. Every one of us is unique and will produce unique sounds. Eric Clapton is often hailed a fantastic blues guitarist, but when playing the acoustic guitar, Tommy Emmanuel makes him seem merely adequate.

Of Course, It’s Mostly In Our Thoughts.

Its not certain where I’m going with this tip, but let me tell you a little tale. When I was a young man, I played along with a friend of mine, who was always less proficient than I was. It was because I practiced much more than he did back then. I loved ‘Police Dog Blues’ by Blind Blake but for me at that time it was too tricky to tackle.

This friend of mine moved abroad and perhaps 11 months after he left, while talking on the phone, he casually told me that he had taught himself ‘Police Dog’. The idea that a ‘less capable’ guitar player had learned this song was difficult to take. I picked up the guitar and taught myself the song in around three days. This is not a testimony to my talents, but rather an indictment of my faulty way of thinking. Most musicians have quite a lot of of arrogance, and quite a sizable ego.

This needs to be understood, controlled and channeled to the good side of the Force!

Play With Other Guitar Players.

It’s great to play with other musicians from several of ways of thinking. Primarily, it’s great fun. There aren’t many things more enjoyable than like jamming along with other guitar players, even when it brings along a sense of competition. This competition is motivating. While playing in a group, musicians are aware of each others capabilities. We all have our strong and weak points, and the wise player reinforces your strength with his own. He will also attempt to hide your weakness, and the overall sound can be a wonderful example of synergy – this signifies that the result is greater than all it’s parts added together.

If the guitarists are more proficient than you, then this will gently stretch you, giving you new ideas and helping you progress.

Play Away Your Normal Style.

I heartily condone this one, as it’s a lot of fun. If you normally play blues, then learn some jazz. If you are a picker, then become a temporary strummer. I think you know what I mean. Now and again we get fixed in one track and say that we are this or that kind of guitarist. We just play the guitar and learning various musical techniques can only aid you to play higher standard.

Take It Easy.

Relax. It’s not that important. You won’t play excellent guitar if you are too stressed or too heavy about it. Some of the modern blues men can be particularly intense and I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s because we would like to play the same as the classic blues players and that kind of outlook goes with the territory. Don’t get bogged down with that kind of thinking. You will never be be the old blues man, because the way we live is very different. Be yourself, that’s all that has to be done – the rest will come.
